| MATERIALS: 10 pounds marblex 1 pack grass, bright. 1 pack lichen 1 pack grass, dark. 1 pack seagrass. 2 big branches 4 slabs Masonite. 2 tubs Weld--All glue. CONSTRUCTION LOG 061022 It took awhile for this to come together, once it did, it was nice! Mostly, it was the lichen on the trees that gave it life and scale. The sand helped too, of course. I started by streaking glue around, pouring sand, blowing away, re-gluing, repeat. I really liked the first few layers, but the masonite was still too visible. Now it's built up five to six layers of thick sand. I custom sculpted rocks and landmasses using nearly all 10 pounds of marblex. I left four slabs of Masonite in a condition where they'd be easy to separate them for packing, but this simply left visible seams in the sand in a lot of places. So, I am torn between filling in those cracks for a smooth look, and leaving the slabs for easy packing away. The entire piece is almost 4 ft.², so it's not all that small or easy to manage. Future work: if I do anymore at all. Then I'll fill the seams in the sand. Give marblex rocks light airbrushing to match the real rocks in the scenes and that's it. 0611 05.00 Originally, I built this especially for the falcon. It now looks like this set will be populated with mechs that will be arriving this week or next. Instead, the cutaway falcon will get a high-tech city landing platform based off of a 5 pound pretzel container and pizza cooking tins... 070117 I've got two Mech's on there now. I'm contemplating blast craters and similar war zone looks. The third mech , which is still under construction, is going to be the hunted. The other two are closing in for the kill. |
