My third eBay buy. No word from the seller yet. I expect it by the end of the week/early next week. As a kid I was never fully impressed with the box picture. So I always shunned it at the store. Unfortunately, it was always more readily available than the Galactica. So we'll see if I was right. I haven't decided on the lights yet.

It arrived at work today... "Cool! How many pieces is that?" "Four."  I reply.  Chuckle, chuckle. Open box, pull out four pieces. Riotous laughter... (They thought I was joking...)

Four plates with two additional pieces for all upper upper and lower lower plate landing bays. A very simple kit.

Horrible seams! Central column seam may be impossible to fill due to limited angle of access. Each plate has bad seams.

The interior mold showed massive signs of hack work with putty lines and the sheets to hold original castings in place.

1/5 of the outer and inner plates was cast and reproduced 10 times each.  These were then slapped together with spit long enough to get a master mold. A couple of the connector areas had worn holes straight through! Unbelievable!

But it is immediately ready for priming. Sand. Prime. Paint. Wash. Hang.

Primed and glued four plates together. Whatever accuracy problems this kit may or may not have, they are overshadowed and squashed by the seams. The Central column has light coming clear through from the other side, it is so bad! The edge seems of the four plates will require complete patching! Horrendous! I will putty sand and wash what I can and call this kit done!

There is a high silver paint content mixed into the very plastic of the model. I can tell this because I've gotten glue on heavily silver painted models before. And this is the plain plastic blobbing up all gloopy in the same manner.

Tedious paint job! I hand brushed the same 20 sections 3 times each! A heavy whitewash, heavy black wash, and a light white wash. White was too light, black too dark. Once I have an airbrush, I'll give it an ultra-light white to bring the ship back to 30% gray.

I'm watching a bunch of old episodes for reference. There are a couple interesting shots I've found with the random glancing I've given them. This quick glance indicates that the basestar actually has a very complicated paint scheme! It's not just a plain gray, there are light oranges in there as well. Probably some greens as the cylon raider has green, too. I'll know if I got the Central column seem patched after its dry tonight.

Otherwise, finished!
