LOG 061224.01 Another crazy kit on the level of Tachikoma. This kit is on hold until I get all the Veritech complete and the Falcon's new spaceport diorama started. This kit includes a 1/24 scale of Spike, Fay and Jet. The Monoracer, however is far smaller than that. It may be 1/72nd. Once I get the mechs together, I'll be able to better judge. 070115.23 Looks like the mechs will go to first, so I'm about ready to prime this kit with the red I've got. Pink will be close to impossible. And the molded pink in the kit, while very close, looks too plastic to remain the way it is. Lots of little black paint all over for scuffs, no secondary colors or decals that I can think of offhand. I'll watch the series again as I work on the mecha. 070117.08 Primed red this morning. I'm looking at images of the swordfish. I'm thinking of doing light drill marks all over the body to simulate impact cratering. A black wash at that point should fill them in nicely. As of now, this is the last full kit that I can do from start to finish with no problems or other alterations. All the other kits have lights, armatures or other exotic modifications to be done to them. The three mechs went super fast (doing the third tonight/tomorrow) and swordfish is coming in fast. I may even skip straight to swordfish tonight as the third mech's overcoat will need to cure for a while. 070121.07 Took about three hours, but swordfish is nearly done. Taking a break as the most complicated parts are just ahead of me now -- the cockpit ball. The fit around all the moving of parts -- folding wings and cockpit latch -- don't have the best fits ever molded, but considering the mechanics of it all, its decent enough. Now to consider putting it into a flying or landed version over the coming weeks. No rush on that. After this, drill up the surface, followed by black washes. Another fast kit from Japan. Very glad this wasn't as maddening, or physically painful, to assemble as Tachikoma was! 070121.18 Finished off the cockpit this afternoon. Overall, looks good, though it is a bit far too red. Swordfish is pink. This kit is distinctly red, but for now it is done. Though I still have to score up the surface and wash it with black. Maybe a whitewash will bring some pink into play. Maybe I should make some pink up and wash with that. We will see. |
