'What a piece of junk'

The only reason I got this was for the alternate scale Falcon and Walkers.  I may use the 'base' for a diorama someday.  Other than that, this is utter and total crap.

The Walkers score a 1/5 for accuracy (they have 4 legs, 1 head and 1 body, it's true).

The Falcon scores a 2/5.  It will be easier to bash into shape than the Walkers will.

The unexpected bonus is the Rebel Transport. While it is misisng 2 of 3 engines, it is the best detailed of all 3 vehicles.  I glued the two halves together and will paint this up first as it is a nice piece.

Otherwise, I've already devoted too much time to this cruddy crap.

'nuff said!

Sometime in the last week or so, I glued, puttied, primed and painted the Rebel transport.  It didn't turn out to be quite the gray I was looking for. However, the black wash I gave it later this evening brought it to life.

Of the Walkers or Falcon, the Falcon would be next on the hit list. The Walkers are so terrible that I will ikely have to use 2 to make one good one and all the custom designing needed to accuratize means that ain't happening soon.

The Falcon ain't so great either, however it is much closer in overall detail and therefore easier.  But even that has major work needed as well. Including: no guns nor a dish, raised relief lines that should be sunken, inaccurate side details, 3 pegs for landing gear, and a host of other significant details.

Yesterday, I used a new sealer.  The bottle didn't say whether it was gloss or matte, so I gave it a shot on the bottom of this kit.

Within moments, blisters appeared all over the body -glad I used the bottom instead of the top and that I didn't experiment on a 'good' kit'. Still, this was a disappointing loss.

So, I let that dry and went with a heavy matte for the bottom. This negated much, but not all of the blistering.  Later I finished the top side off with the same matte.

Too small and unwieldy to hang, I created an impromptu stand from one of Reliant's stand/runners (a clear plastic rail in a convenient shape) and the bottom of the Cylon Basestar's base.  One might even say this triple combination is perfect together.

The washes brought this piece to life. Whether I do any spot colors in the future remaisn to be seen. For now, it is done.

Pictures to follow.

For this stand with this kit, I used one of the clear plastic runners from the USS Reliant glued to the Basestar base. The rail fits nicely underneath the body of the transport, however it likes to snap. It did so again recently. This time, I set clear sprue to brace the snap point. Thus creating a sleeve on the upper arm entirely. I glued the ship at a downward angle.

Made a base for the walker and put magnets in its feet.  Gotta paint the ground base and the walker too.  Don't know that I would try to accuartize the body.  It's pretty bad.  The base is the last of my marblex stock.
