For a long while, I thought this was a pretty cool kit, but that it was a bit small. Well, I saw a finished piece in person and that settled it!
This kit, at ~6" diameter, is in fact a great size! Atomic City will eventually be selling the studio scale of 13" which is beyond my means. Also, seeing the body for that one in person hit home the notion that that thing is BIG! The sphere is likely basketball sized, but beef it up with some arms and it's gonna comfortably occupy the volume of a beachball! Table or hanging, that's too big for me to display -anywhere convenient at least.
Having placed my order yesterday, this one will be in the mail soon enough. Overall, I have lucked out lately and slipped into convenient places in line it seems. I got the D-7 during a lull in orders and now this one too! The arms are on back order, but will follow promptly enough. My faith in Scott at Atomic City is total and complete.
I have come across a number of other modelers who have built this kit up and they have truly set the bar for excellence. This one will take some serious time! Some of these guys have been working on theirs for a year and more! And the results are truly striking!
That's it for now. An initial review and pix will come along in due course.

Been doing a bunch of research this week, going on a ref-capture session possibly tonight. Going to grab all sorts of shots.
The knowledge base on this model is deep and I will have access to some insightful building techniques as I progress.

Theoretically, it's being poured this week. I hope to have it soon. It was to be mailed several weeks ago, but as things go, it should be arriving this week or next.

Opened the box last night! Looked through all the pieces. Read the
directions thoroughly. Washed all the major parts this afternoon.

Sprayed the back sides black. Waiting another hour and will flip the pieces over. Probably won't get to white tonight, but tomorrow will be good enough. This kit isn't going anywhere...

All parts are now black. Turns out I didn't wash some parts well enough and got some mild fish eye going on. Will have a look later tonight or tomorrow.

Painted the exterior a basic white, taped it together for a few days to marvel at it and put it away last night. There's nothing I can do on it for a while now. ... All that impatience to get it, only to pack it away....
Basically, I need to get my wiring chops down on the Cut Away Falcon (Kit #2) first, and go from there. That one's been waiting the longest and will be one that I won't mind screwing up on. Then, there are several other kits that need lighting to practice on too.
Also, I need to practice building from styrene. I'm working on another kit now with that in mind and have several more oppportunities ahead as well.
I want the EVAP to be as near perfect as any others that have gone before me. And to that end, I am willing ot spend some time to get it right. Some of the guy's over at the 1MSPWG have been working on there's for years -literally!!! There is no rush for me.
Also: Picked up a sandwich wrap of some sort from a Trader Joe's a while back and it came in this cool plastic container.

The bottom grating is an excellent grating/mesh that I have cut out and will use as a base for this kit.
