This looks to be a genuine 1968 boxed edition. How I got it as cheap as I did, I am still wondering. The seller also had a 1701 that went for $105.

The box is slightly crushed in the bottom corner, but it's only the top.  Can't tell if it's sealed as the seller only listed it as 'unopened'.  Sold as 'new' implies all the parts are there and bagged if the box itself is not sealed.  We'll see,

At worst, I bought another D-7 at a good price.  Oh no.

If it is a sealed 1968, then it is staying that way indfeinitely.

For build notes and pix of this kit, check my 1974 edition build, finished in 11 days back in November 2007:

So sad.  This is the first re-release in 1969, making it as old as me.
I confirmed this at Fantastic Plastic's site.

This box is mildly crushed, but not broken.  More 'distorted' than anything else.  There is a tear in the front plastic, but it is only a couple square inches.  The box is so much bigger than the later editions, I can't help but think there must be more in there.

The first print in 1968 had a lighting kit.  This one does/should not. It should have the same clear (or green) and chrome plastic parts as the 1970's kit I got did. While the 1970's kit was molded brown, this one is likely white.

I don't know if I will ever open this one, but I will at least get box pix and post later.

FYI -here's the 1968 version
