LOG 081222.20 Inquiring the other week at my local about the kit, I got a call today as they'd got two in, on hold for me specifically. I was there an hour later. it cost the expected $20. I was also told they were massiviely back ordered. Breaking it open, there were several changes, the grid lines were gone from the hull, but there was a concave bowing to the center of the disc. I think some of the key tabs were gone. The normal seams were still bad. I am going to modify this one slightly from the other two. Thinking about it, there are many accuratization kits to make this kit look as close to the 1701 as possible. Since I'm building other ships in the class, each one will be slightly different than another. So when I finally do get 'the Enterprise', I will make sure to do that one exactly right. Back to this one... It went together as fast as expected. It seems they are using a plastic with a noticeable vinyl content. It just has that feeling to it. Having built the Connie two years ago, I knew what to expect on this one to a large degree, but there were some new tricks to watch out for. Regardless, I had this kit mostly toegether and primered as much as possible over four hours. I'm waiting on a coat to dry now. I'm building up the surface and sanding it down. I'm keeping as many windows as possible, but the new decals make up for those. The decal sheet is very amazing. They left the eyebrows off the sheet though. I will have to paint those on myself. There were reports of the decals beign stuck to the wax paper protector, but that did not happen in this case. I am going to go with a few grays on the body to further differentiate this one as the Republic. There being no reference for what it looked like, I am free to do with it what I like design-wise. 081222.23 DId another round of filing and sanding. I put some CA gel into the neck seam to tone that down. I'll give it a shine tomorrow night and prime it back up again. On track for finishing this weekend! 090202.15 This one went to gether fast. As such, I learned a bunch of good tips for the second one. That came out better, and so this became Defiant and the other became Republic. Still to do on this is get some glow paint and spray the body. Find the build history over at youtube under the AMT playlist. |
