Really looking forward to this kit! It's going to be astounding!
Put my order in on the payday eve after it was announced. The kit will not be ready until mid-October for the first orders. Don't know where I am in line at all.
This is the same casting as the eleven foot model that Atomic City offers to its Underwriter's Project. While the whole ship can't be sold as a kit, this is the 2nd section to be done so (the antennae mid-section was the first a few years ago). Now it's the Command Module's turn for an exclusive-release-run.
It comes with the Sphere, the Neck, the Collar, a Flight Deck, Pod Bay Deck and 3 EVA Pods! Nice!
I came across it the night after it was posted at the AC site. A few days later, I was hooked. As soon as my next paycheck came in, I placed the order!
It was to be a limited run of fifteen, but it sounds like there were a few others to get in on it as well. I don't mind as I got in on time!
I was at Home Depot a few weeks ago looking for some metal bars. Instead, I happened across an 18" round heavy wood board that is the perfect size not only to mount this piece on, but also the Aries kit when I get that! They are both about 15" diameter.
My plan is to wall mount the entire piece. I will get a steel rod somewhere and use that to secure all the pieces together. The wooden board will have to hang directly on a stud or I could come home one night and find some unpleasantness. I'd be as shattered as the kit that's for sure!
Don't know if I will display the flight deck as a separate piece or inclusive to the CM. One door open with the pod pad and pod sticking out could be good. Naturally, it will be fully lit. There's more than plenty of interior room for the wiring.

The Captain confirms that mid-October is still looking like the shipping date for the first orders! Only a few more weeks now!

Got an update the other night. The mold for the CM was no good and had to be recast. As such, work on the interior came to a halt. The new projected date for the first kits is T-Giving. If this arrives before the end of the year, it will be the best XMas present I could get (this year at least!) ;)
I am utterly delighted that we are getting a fresh mold. That is well worth the wait! The EVAPod has a 'builder's group' for all those folks to share resources and such. That inpsired me to start one up for this kit.

It was called CMK-15 as that is the name of the kit and the amount of the edition. As the new mold is being made, that makes the 15 aspect null. And while building the site, the AMK was announced, so I expanded the board to include that as well.. Afterall, they are the same ship!
Some folk there are even talking about scratch building the missing parts that cannot be sold by the Captain (due to contractual obligations). That would be crazy!

: Pods are lightable. I am considering assigning three pods to the AMK work. The CMK pod will be on its platform and wired from there into the floor.

: Motorizing the pod bay door. (motorize a 2nd door w/ no pod so taht there is an unobstructed view of the Pod Bay.
Sphere
If a lot of test fitting is necessary with the interior then there's no point in painting the exterior early. I can otherwise paint the exterior assembly and mount on the wall.
Mount
: 18 inch pine round. I must cut a mounting hole. Also, I need to hollow areas out for wiring and switch mounts. One switch for lights. One switch for door open/close.
