I've had my eye on this kit for the better part of two years now. I've seen them go for as high as $150. I got this for $112 delivered. A somehwat average price, perhaps slightly lower than some, but very close to as cheap as they come.
I've got a fair idea of what I'm getting into with this kit, but opening the box and reading the directions will really sink things home.
I see this getting lights without exception. I also think I will be piling magnets all under the deck to hold the planes down.
There are a number of plus-packs for this ship, including various flight groups of planes and brass etched replacement parts.
A couple of the obvious challenges on this ship will be potentially fixing the Tamiya innaccuracies (well documented around the net) and deciding what time period my build will represent. The Big E has gone through a number of changes over the years and affects everything.
Being a 'real' ship, there is little leeway for faking details and as with other 'real' ships, this one will be judged on its accuracy. This build will test the limits of my patience and abilites. As such, it will take quite some time.
As coincidence, it is in the same scale as my NCC-1701 and my vision has been to display them together. There is also what I believe ot be a 1/350 Godzilla out there that would make an excellent addition to this ship! LOL.
Well, I should have it by the end of the week, if not going into next week at the latest.
'Til then.

Next week already? You bet! And guess what is being delivered today?
I've researched the PE parts and there is about $100 there. So that is a guaranteed expense. Additional airwings and support could go another $100. So I'm looking at ~$300 for this build before wiring. I also have the notion to make this RC...
This could go to $500 and I will be happy with that. Like several others I own or look to get, this is a grail kit. There are no expenses that will be spared in bringing this kit to life.

Wow.
Longer than half my couch. There is no table/cabinet surface in my place that is longer than this model.
This kit will be a pleasure long treasured as the years go by -and enjoyed for more years afterwards once it's actually finished!. I expect this kit to take me 3 years once begun. Maybe I could do it in two. It's going to be all about the reference material.
