Inspiration can truly seem to come out of nowhere.  In this case, it came from the kitchen.  I was cleaning the other  night and moved an empty pretzel barrel I have had sitting around for several months.  Placing it next to the Little D's Command Module in the living room, lightning struck me low.  They are a perfect match!

A cursory glance at my parts cabinet instantly revealed a couple old water filters that would make perfect engines.  They looked so good that I grabbed two new ones out of the wrapper to complete the setup.  Also coincidentally laying around were some plastic shower curtain rings.  All told, I had four 'engines'  with six 'coils' around each.  It looks great.

They go at one end of the pretzel barrel and the CM goes at the other.

The CM did not come with pod bay doors.  Further searching revealed that I had two spice cannister lids.   They fit perfectly and gave the doors the exact detail and depth they needed.

Trouble is, even if I acquired a third lid, it will not fit.  The two lids in there now cover the far side doors well, but take up too much space for a third in the center door.

Solving this dilemma is a medicine tube of the exact inner diameter as the pod doorway.  This will become a fixed mount telescope.  ASsuch, this spontatneous project becamea  science vessel of some sort.  For more scientific 'freedom', an additional, positional telescope will be mounted on the ship's spine somewhere.  I think I have the cannister for this -another bulk spice plastic jar.

With two telescopes, this project instantly became a deep space research vessel.  I am still debating the dynamics of the craft.  WIth four engines attached directly to the pretzel body, that should be the engine module; which should then attach to a lving module.

I am thinking that the pretzel body should be a combo module.  Attaching it directly to the CM (as I do not have the CM collar and neck (and could not scratch them into existence)) makes for a more internal workspace for the crew.

More to come.
